01Overview

PT-141 nasal spray, also known as Bremelanotide, is a medication primarily used to treat low sexual desire (HSDD) Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder) in women, and it has also been studied for erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. PT-141 is a melanocortin receptor agonist, specifically targeting MC-4 and MC-3 receptors in the brain. MC3R and MC4R receptors are in the hypothalamus (a key brain region involved in sexual behaviour, these receptors regulate sexual arousal.

02Central Mechanism

Binds to melanocortin receptors in the brain.

  • Activates pathways in the hypothalamus and limbic system (regions responsible for sexual desire and emotional arousal).
  • Increases dopamine signaling, which is closely tied to sexual motivation.
  • Enhances psychological and physical sexual response, even without direct genital stimulation.

This is why PT-141 can trigger arousal and desire, not just improve physical function. Unlike drugs like Sildenafil or Tadalafil, which work on blood flow, PT-141 works on the central nervous system to boost sexual desire
